A Housewarming Party to Remember

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Two dolphins jumping for some reasonThis is going to sound wrong, but bear with me. I often wonder what it would be like to be the most attractive girl in a room. What I mean by that is to be actively pursued by all of the eligible people in the room, and I specified attractive girl because if I was the most attractive guy in the room, well, girls typically don’t approach guys in the same way that a guy will approach an attractive girl. Also, you could go up to ten different girls and they would all give you a different definition of what a hot guy looks like (among the layman, anyway), unless it is someone universally hot like Brad Pitt. But, if you go up to 10 guys and ask what a hot girl looks like, they will all give you almost the same exact description, and the best part is, that description is not of some supermodel or Hollywood actress, it could be the porn star that’s in the room with you right now.

And while I will never know what if feels like to have everybody in the room pine over me, I did get a small taste of it the other night, and I have to say, it was odd. Being actively pursued, being the one that gets to say yes or no, that is an odd feeling.

Selected Excerpts from a Pseudo-Philosophical Conversation

Friday, February 9th, 2007

I recently had an enthralling conversation with a good friend of mine. I think what made it so fun was the fact that neither of us was serious, but we were both talking as if we were. A pseudo-philosophical conversation - making points as if we were talking about our beliefs, but in reality, it’s more of a commentary on people’s grandiose opinions about things that, in the scheme of things, don’t really matter.

Southern Hospitality

Saturday, November 25th, 2006

Many people have the common misconception that Virginia is a southern state. While it is true that it is below the Mason-Dixon line, and therefore techincally a southern state, it is not really that south. Granted, parts of Virginia are, in fact, I would go so far as to say most of the state is southern. There are, however, two exceptions, Northern Virginia and Virginia Beach. Is it a coincedence that these are the only two places in Virginia that I’ve lived? No, I don’t think so, and here’s why.

Little Hope

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

I’m not quite sure what to make of this picture. I think it pretty much epitomizes the state of the human race. People are too lazy and too stupid to do anything. I mean, this sign was printed on normal printer paper, but instead of getting a new sheet, they just crossed out the number and wrote in the new one. Apparently, Cal moved and got a new phone number, and he wanted you to know with whom you would be speaking when you called.

I’m kind of torn on whether or not I should call. On the one hand, he’s obviously an idiot and can be easily tricked into giving me a good deal. On the other hand, he is obviously very frugal if he can’t even afford to use a new sheet of plain white paper. The fact that he is holding up the sign with duct tape also shows that he is very resourceful. Personally, I think that this is too much work to be worthwhile, I’ll just look for the next incredibly sweet looking car that I see on the road.

How to Fix Our Schools: the Ramblings of a Failed Economist

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

I guess to be a failed economist, I would first have to be an economist. I don’t have any false notions that a minor in economics makes me an economist, just like watching a documentary doesn’t make me a a director. I did, however, take just enough econ classes to get myself in trouble. As they say, I have just enough rope to hang myself with.

So, You Think your Vote Counts?

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

This is an 80 minute HBO documentary on how easy it is to rig an election. I thought it would be fitting to watch on this election day.

The entire thing is worth watching, but the last 15-20 minutes are crucial, they actually have video of somebody stealing an election with real election equipment.

[ Google Video ]

Somebody started calling up democrats and telling them their polling location changed.

Also, the republicans bussed in homeless people to hand out misleading sample ballots to predominantly democratic neighborhoods.
