Captain Morgan is my Hero
Bamboozled is a fun word. It’s not so fun when you are on the receiving end of the bamboozlement, though. That’s what happened to me last week, rounding out a three day drinking fest starting on Thursday and culminating in me passing out at 6pm on Sunday.
The drinking fest started on Thursday. Thursday was the last day of my old job; I decided to give myself a whole three day weekend before starting my new job on Monday. Obviously I had to celebrate my last day. I left from work early, because what were they going to do, fire me? I left at about 4 (I know, it’s not even that early) and sat in traffic for about an hour until I got to Fairfax. I met up with my ex-girlfriend Kate, we actually both arrived at the same exact time, it was a little scary, if I’m going to be truthful here.
Just as a side note, taking Doug’s advice, I will be using actual pseudonyms for my acquaintances, as opposed to acronyms or made up words that are hard to follow, so no more New Friend Number 37. Also, these names will remain consistent between stories starting with this one; I’m even making a list of pseudonyms to which I can refer back.
Anyway, so Kate and I got to BWU in Fairfax at the same time. I was actually supposed to meet my friend Kara there, but she didn’t know that I left from work early, and she was planning on getting there about the same time I would have gotten there, had I left on time. So I got there at about the same time that she was just leaving from work. It wasn’t a big deal, Kate and I were still on good terms and it had been a while since we had hung out so we had plenty of things to talk about. She also started calling up a bunch of friends in the area and before I knew it, we had almost a full table before Kara even showed up. Then to my surprise Will showed up. I was only surprised because Kara had told me earlier that he wasn’t coming.
Now we had a nice little party going on. When Kate and I got to the bar it was 5, I continued drinking until we left the bar to go back to Kara’s place at about 9. Kara, Will, and I went back so that Kara could get ready to go to our next destination, Ned’s. Ned’s is the place to be in Fairfax on a Thursday night. When I was in college, that’s where I would go. I was surprised that even when school was out the turnout was still excellent.
After Kara was got ready we headed to Ned’s, which was within walking distance of both BWU and Kara’s place. We got there and the place was pretty dead, which was not surprising since it was just barely 10. We did, however, see a couple of new friends, Amy and Nancy. Nancy is New Hot Friend from this story. I was extremely pleased to see them, most likely because I was already drunk at this point and also they are pretty fun girls.
We got some drinks and started talking, then something amazing happened - Captain Morgan came to the bar. It was actually pretty interesting that he came when he did since the place was still relatively dead. But that didn’t stop us from getting our picture taken with him and then getting some coupons for some free rum and coke. I was a little disappointed that the rum and cokes were served in little baby plastic cups, making the mixed drink seem more like a shooter, but hey, free alcohol is free alcohol.
That night was a lot of fun, I did a little dancing, which paled in comparison to the last time I danced at Ned’s, but I still managed to cut a rug, as they say. Although, it’s always a little bit awkward to be the only dancers on the dance floor and not be able to hide in a large crowd of people. In light of this when Kara and I started dancing; we did it in full high school fashion. That is to say, we were at arm’s length away from each other, doing a slow dance to some bass-heavy song. Clearly not appropriate for the situation, but it was still pretty funny.
After Ned’s got a little more crowded, Nancy and Amy decided to go to Rain, a club located right in Fairfax. I had only been there once before. The place seemed pretty nice, but I haven’t fully experienced it yet. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t be able to experience it on that night, either. I was dressed just a little too casually to get in (i.e., I was wearing tennis shoes). It was probably for the best, I was pretty wasted at this point, although I definitely would have liked to hang out with Amy and Nancy more.
But that was the end of my night. Will and Kara walked back to Kara’s house with me. Will drove home and I slept on the couch for a little bit before eventually driving home. I was struggling the next day.

[…] Not surprisingly, I was tired all day Friday from going out on Thursday. Fortunately, I didn’t have to work so I was able to relax. I did, however, have some errands to run so I completed them, saw Ratatouille with Mary, who was also enjoying a vacation before she started her new job on Monday as well. […]
